Company fleets restart: in the first few days of June, almost 8 million km were travelled per day.

At the end of March, the figure was just over 2 million.  Before the emergency, it was over 10 million.

Short-term rental is still at a standstill: 700,000 km travelled per day in the last week against 1.6 million before the emergency.

Italy gets going again, literally. In fact In the last week of May and the first few days of June, company fleet cars recorded an average of approx. 8 million km travelled per day. At the end of March, in full lockdown, by way of comparison, the figure barely exceeded 2 million. If, however, the comparison is extended to the situation prior to the outbreak of the epidemic, we see that the average number of kilometres travelled every day by the cars used by companies for the mobility of their employees was approx. 10.6 million.

The world of short term rental, usually employed for tourist purposes, is still far from being fully operational.

Between the end of May and the beginning of June, cars in this category travelled an average of just over 700,000 km per day, compared to over 1.6 million at the beginning of February.

Targa Telematics, a company specialising in technological solutions for mobility, gathers and processes this information to some of the major players in the car rental market as well as provides them digital platforms for vehicle monitoring. The data, in particular, refers to fleet cars for long term rental (for companies and individuals) and those for short term rental, usually employed for tourist purposes. As a whole, Targa Telematics monitors more than 500 thousand assets belonging to the above mentioned sectors.

“Our technology allows us to follow the evolution of the country’s mobility in real time – observes Nicola De Mattia, Targa Telematics CEO -. Mobility is precisely one of the pillars on which we will build the restart of our economic and productive system, hoping for a highly opportune intervention in favour of the sector by the government, as has already happened in all major European countries”

The graph below shows the evolution of the average daily mileage of the two different types of cars monitored.
