New Smart Mobility of Cortina 2021: shuttle and travel management with Targa Telematics.

The platform makes it possible to track transport and monitor traffic, enabling smart mobility. Information available in real time through the official World Championship App.

With the approach of the Alpine World Ski Championships to be held in Cortina d’Ampezzo from 7 to 21 February 2021, the Queen of the Dolomites is confirmed as a test ground for cutting edge smart mobility technology.

Thanks to the collaboration of major players in the sector, an innovative infomobility platform will be active during the Championships, able to monitor the territory and providing a continuous flow of data to ensure safety and optimal logistics during the event and to provide the general public with real time information through an app enabling intelligent travel planning.

Targa Telematics, an Italian company with more than 20 years of experience in the field of Information Technology, is an excellent partner, capable of ensuring continuous monitoring of the shuttle fleet that will transport spectators, staff and media operators between the various areas of Cortina during the event.

Thanks to the technology of Targa Telematics, it will be possible to identify vehicles on the territory, calculate travel times and predict delays.  Data collected by the Targa Telematics tracking system will be sent – along with traffic and car park information collected by other partners of Fondazione Cortina 2021 – to a Situation Room, where all the data will be processed and shared with the outside world in real time.

The information obtained will be available in the “Mobility” section of the official Cortina 2021 app, allowing for optimisation of movement in a smart and intermodal manner, guiding users that enter Cortina to the Finish Area where they can attend the races. Travel times for road sections and location of the nearest shuttle will be visible in real time through a dynamic map, developed to offer a complete and easy-to-use service on all devices.

After the World Championships, the platform will benefit residents and tourist in the destination, to develop further forms of intelligent transport and integrated services for sustainable mobility in the mountain, in harmony with the mission of Cortina 2021 of creating a lasting legacy for the local community.

«With Targa Telematics by our side, we have ensured the completeness and the efficiency of the smart mobility platform implemented for the World Championships. The company’s long experience in the IT sector is a guarantee of quality for the complex system designed to monitor and manage traffic flows  – says Valerio Giacobbi, CEO of Fondazione Cortina 2021 – Once again, the World Championships are proving to be a driving force for transformation, applying new technologies to the territory that will help rethink practices and systems in the long run, revolutionising the mountain in a sustainable way».

Targa Telematics’ passion for alpine sports is well known, and it is a pleasure for us to collaborate with Fondazione Cortina 2021 which, thanks to its excellent organisation, will give visibility and prestige to Italy” declares Nicola De Mattia, CEO of Targa Telematics. “We have made our best fleet management technology available to the Fondazione, in order to enable efficient smart mobility, as well as our skill and know how in optimising movement within an event, which is complex even in the absence of a general public”.
