According to Althesys’ latest Top Utility report, 20% of environmental services companies’ vehicle fleets consist of low-emission vehicles. A partnership is launched between Top Utility and Targa Telematics for the digitalization and electrification of utility fleets.
Milan, 21 October 2021 – Italian utilities are paying more attention to the renewal of their fleets with green objectives: according to the latest Top Utility report, 19.6% of vehicles of environmental service companies are low-emission vehicles. A percentage that has steadily grown over the three-year period, to mark a new record in the latest edition. The significant reduction in emissions is the most obvious result of the increasing electrification of mobility. In 2019, for instance, for every ton of waste collected, only 20.8 kg of CO2 were emitted, compared to almost 22 in 2017.
Green mobility and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP)
Nonetheless, making mobility more sustainable is one of the main goals of the NRRP. This was recently reminded by Prime Minister Mario Draghi when he spoke at the Youth4Climate in Milan. This congress brought together 400 under-30s who were committed to preparing a negotiating document that was then adopted by the ministers who will participate in the Pre-Cop26 and in the main meeting in Glasgow at the end of October.
Green and digitalized corporate fleets
The increased focus of utilities on sustainability and their role in the urban context is leading to progress on the impact of corporate mobility. Green and connected company fleets are the future of the sector, which is being targeted with interventions on two fronts. On one hand, companies have started to purchase low-emission vehicles, which account for 21% of all new vehicles, bringing the percentage of low-emission vehicles present to 14%. On the other hand, digital tools for the optimization of operational processes related to fleet management are becoming increasingly widespread and they also integrate specific functionalities to support electric mobility. This is opening new opportunities for utilities: the application of ICT solutions to fleet management allows routes and performance to be optimized, it increases the safety of both of vehicles and drivers, it further decreases levels of emissions and it reduces waiting times.
Althesys and Targa Telematics partnership
Precisely because of the growing strategic importance of sustainable and digital mobility for utilities, a partnership has been signed between Althesys and Targa Telematics, a tech company specializing in the development of digital solutions in the field of telematics, smart mobility and IoT platforms for mobility operators.
“Digitalization is rapidly changing Italian utilities and mobility management, for both corporate fleets and citizen services – commented Alessandro Marangoni, CEO of Althesys – it is an area with great potential for optimization, both in terms of costs and operational efficiency”.
“The ability to make decisions based on real time information is the basis of strategies to streamline the processes of every company. Telematics is key to driving a sustainable transition to e-mobility, plus it enables innovative Smart Mobility solutions to meet new citizen mobility needs – commented Alberto Falcione, Targa Telematics Sales VP – Even utilities will need to increasingly make data-driven decisions if they want to fully seize the potential of digital. The partnership with Althesys and participation in Top Utility will provide Targa Telematics with a privileged point of observation on the emerging needs of the sector, essential to develop increasingly customized solutions for a more sustainable mobility.”
Participation in Key Energy
Targa Telematics will participate in Key Energy, the leading national event on renewable energies, urban regeneration and sustainable mobility, to be held at the Rimini Exhibition Center (October 26-29, 2021). It will be in Hall D7, stand 053. In collaboration with Althesys, the company will take part in the conference “Sustainable B2B mobility case histories” (Thursday, October 28, at 2 p.m. – Agorà City and Mobility Hall D7).
