At 11.15 this morning the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Graziano Delrio, visited the stands of Italian exhibitors at the 66th International Motor Show in Frankfurt (IAA 2015). The tour began at the ANFIA-ICE joint area in the New Mobility World - Connected Car Pavilion (Pavilion 3.1), a collaboration that brings together three Italian companies from the telematics and infomobility industry – Meta System, Targa Telematics and Vodafone Automotive – and also includes the Italian startup Spin8 (New Mobility World - Startup Area; Pav. 3.1), the Lamborghini stand (Pav. 3), the stands for Alfa Romeo (including the Magneti Marelli corner), Ferrari and Maserati (Pav. 6).

During his visit, the Minister emphasised the leading role of the automotive industry in terms of technological innovation and the leadership of Italian components in this context. He also made reference to some of the G7 Transport issues lined up for discussion at the Show: the digitisation of transport, autonomous driving and infrastructure funding.

One of ANFIA’s top priorities for smart mobility is the formulation and implementation of policies for autonomous driving,” said Roberto Vavassori, Chairman of ANFIA. “To give impetus to this area of research and ensure Italy’s technological leadership, we call for the launch of a national programme for autonomous driving,” continued Vavassori, “to enable the development and use of these vehicles in specific contexts (e.g. motorways and car parks), leading to complete driverless autonomy in generic, urban and suburban environments, with connectivity extended in all its permutations, adequate safety and security architectures and the amendment of the 1968 Vienna Convention.
